Friends of Brent Falconer |
Here are links to the home pages of some good friends, followed by a few noteworthy sf sites which provide a useful resource of genre news, games materials, and downloadable stories
Friends
- Wulf Forrester-Barker
- The brains behind this site (he does this sort of thing for fun, you know!). Wulf is a web-designing Christian bassist, and if you don't know what one of them looks like you'll find some pictures on his site.
- Magnus Forrester-Barker
- Wulf's youngest brother is a Maths genius and looks a bit like famous sf author Orson Scott Card. If you don't believe me, check out the photos on his site. He also has an ever-expanding list of toastie fillings, and stuff on topics as varied as celtic music and linguistics.
Games resources
- Wizards of the Coast
- They brought the world 'Magic the Gathering', and then the bought TSR, Inc., the people responsible for Dungeons & Dragons. A great site,
including some classic modules to download and lots of ways to customise your desktop.
- Chaosium
- They gave us the 'Call of Cthulhu' RPG, possibly the best game ever produced.
- Gamespot
- For those who prefer pixels with their games, there are few better places on the web than Gamespot for news, reviews, and those all-important
game-guides (that's cheating to you and me!)
General SF sites
- SFX online
- "The World's best selling sf magazine" site is a useful
complement to the magazine.
- Science Fiction Weekly
- The Sci Fi Channel's weekly magazine page has the latest news on film and TV sf, book reviews, games, a John Clute column, and an interesting 'Site of the Week' feature.
- Scifan
- The most comprehensive guide to published sf and fantasy anywhere, updated with each month's publications. Also contains links and help in tracking down specific books and stories.
- Ansible
- Legendary sf fan and reviewer Dave Langford's online newsletter, which you can subscribe to by email. The site also includes Ansible Links, a great guide to where the best in sf coverage can be found on the web.
- Locus Online
- The well-known sf news and reviews magazine also has a web-based version.
Sites containing stories
- Infinity Plus
- Top quality stories by top class authors, with plenty of useful links as well. Some of the authors featured include Stephen Baxter, Peter
F. Hamilton, and Mary Gentle, plus you can read the story that
named a movement, Bruce Bethke's original 'Cyberpunk'.
- SF Site
- This great sf resource, featuring the Internet Speculative Fiction Database, is also home to the online incarnations of some excellent magazines: Analog, Asimovs, Weird Tales, Interzone, and Fantasy &
Science Fiction (to name but a few).
- Hatrack River
- The official web site of Orson Scott Card has plenty of features, including stories and articles you can download, exclusive previews of
opening chapters from his novels, and a Q&A feature for prospective writers.
