I have a bit of a photographic backlog at the moment, with a couple of hundred images I took during a week away with our church all queued up for sorting through. Normally that wouldn't incline me to take another trip to the gardens at RHS Wisley but, since Magnus is visiting and hasn't visited there before, I have decided to resign myself to collecting yet more images.

Meanwhile, to brighten things up, here is a shot of an Echinacea purpurea that I took on a recent trip to RHS Rosemoor and published yesterday.

I hope the one planted in our garden grows into such a beautiful flower!

Wisley Trip

Jane and I took another trip to RHS Wisley yesterday afternoon. By the time we had lunch, got organised and drove down there it was about 4pm by the time we got in so I only got a small selection of pictures. While the photographic fruits were not as bountiful as sometimes, it was still a pleasant way to end the afternoon and good place to further our thoughts about what we want to do with our gardens.

New Flickr Photo Page

When I logged into Flickr this morning, I found a preview of a new layout for photo pages on the site. The adjustments are relatively subtle but I think they do enhance it. Doubtless there will be an outcry from some long-established users but I think it does serve to keep Flickr looking modern even if, for a few weeks, it might not seem so comfortably familiar.

My Favourite Photograph, May 2010

Because my favourite lenses are so old they do not work with the metering system on my D40, I frequently end up with the first shot of a batch being either very under or over exposed. Sometimes those results turn out well though.

This rhododendron bush at RHS Wisley is a good example. Although straight from the camera it looks more like a painting or highly processed image and serves well as my favourite picture from May 2010.

My favourite picture from April 2010 is this close up of hyacinths in the front garden. They provided a wonderful burst of colour and scent and I was glad to be able to capture the vibrance in this shot.

You saw this one before during the previous run of 7Days but it has so much energy that I wanted to remember it as one of my favourite pictures of 2010 as well. Very metal!

My Favourite Photograph, February 2010

I knew I was behind on my favourite picture series for 2010 but I did not realise that I had not even got round to posting my photograph from February!

This shot was taken during the marmalade-making session we had back in February. All that delicious, orange richness is long gone (and very tasty it was, too) but I still have the phot to remind me, making use of the sharp band of focus to draw attention to the hands among the pattern of jars.
