Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel
Since it drops off the BBC's iPlayer at the end of this evening you will probably need a time machine to enjoy the Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel programme that Jane and I watched last night. If you want comedy for nerds (or "imagineers" as Chris O'Dowd's character styles himself) then this will be a timely solution.
Flying Scales
I discovered yesterday that my kitchen scales fly well. Unfortunately they aren't so hot on landing!
The challenge of getting used to a new kitchen is that not everything has a proper place to live. Jane had left the scales on top of the basket of flour; I thought they were tucked down the side and so lifted the basket out less carefully than I should have done, hence the aerodynamic display.
The scales did seem to be completely broken although my "I might as well have a look at what's inside since they are beyond repair" fiddlings seem as if they might have repaired things. I need to give them a proper test but, whether they turn out to be restored or if we need a new set of scales, will definitely try to find a more secure home for them in future.
Distilling
No! I haven't installed a moonshine still out the back to make my own hooch. I'm after distilled water in order not to skew the soil assays I plan for the garden. I have several prepared test-tubes waiting and just need to add samples of soil, diluted with pH neutral water to find the overall chemical condition of our grounds.
So far I have been using an inverted saucepan to condense the steam every time I boil the kettle. This is low yield but free. Tonight we are boiling a bacon joint and I am experimenting with using my silicon bread mould to sit on top of the cooking pot and dribble the condensed (distilled) water into another saucepan.
It will be interesting to see how much I end up with; if it doesn't give enough, I might resort to asking one of the scientists at work if I can have a bottle drawn from their RO main (another way of purifying water) as an alternative.

Made it Through the MOT
Our car made it through the MOT fairly smoothly today (although not without some wallet-denting elements to the service). At least we can say that it is still running well and will keep us on the road a while longer.

In a Box, Somewhere
The problem with moving is that you have a whole bunch of things that you know you brought with you but which remain in an unidentified box somewhere. I have been looking for our "ethernet over power" plugs. I saw them during packing but, despite attempting to look in every box, haven't turned them up since so I will have to run a cable upstairs instead.
Mind you, I was talking to a friend last night who said that they discovered a set of china they thought that had lost two moves ago when they finished unpacking at their present home. I what surprises lurk for us!
Bed Room
I had my first night sleeping in a pun last night. What most people would call a box room turned out to have just enough space for our bed and to still open the door and walk round the edges, so that has now become our bed room. Wardrobes? That's all next door in the dressing room!
It remains to be seen whether this still feels funny in a couple of weeks but will do for now.

A Worthwhile Afternoon
We won't get the main bits of furniture, such as our bed, across to the new house until later this week but we've been camping there this weekend. A highlight was spontaneously having some friends round for dinner after church fortunately we went shopping on Saturday and were fairly well stocked up.
We hope to host many more guests, planned and unplanned, so this was a good start.
