Terje Rypdal
I have recently discovered the guitar stylings of Terje Rypdal, a Norwegian guitar virtuoso, thanks to a combination of Last.fm's recommendation engine and Spotify's huge music collection. What I have heard so far reminds me of Jeff Beck in a mellow mood, floating around with harmonics and whammy bar manipulations of his notes.
Definitely an artist to return to.
