Wine Review - Pinot Grigio Superiore
Time for another wine review, although looking through my food posts reminds me that I need to give you the method for turning dough into bread for anyone who has mixed up the ingredients for the Wholemeal Oat Bread I was describing.
Pinot Grigio Superiore 2007 Cantina Breganze

Observing this pinot grigio in the glass, the colour was a pale but strong yellow, like highly polished brass. Perhaps fittingly, it had an almost metallic tang to the nose although also faintly perfumed.
Tasting it was an experience to savour, a splash of late summer even on a cold winter evening. Initially there was a buzzing sensation; the feel of a dry cider and probably attributable to the acidity of the wine. However, the image that came to mind was not apple trees but bees buzzing round their hives. Quickly this edge resolved first to a honeyed taste and then richer still to an ambrosial nectar.
Finally, after swallowing, the taste faded away, leaving a pleasant ring in the mouth; a tolling bell from a small church, lazily observed across fields of golden stubble under azure skies. The price is slightly more expensive than the previous pinot grigios I have drunk from the very bottom end of the scale but, for a modest increase, is worlds beyond what I anticipated. Highly recommended.
Minor footnote: Referring back to my earlier review of Pasqua Pinot Grigio, the bottle had been stopped with a plastic cork, so my theory that all pinot grigios have screwcaps has been scuppered in the same way that my expectations of what the grape can do have been elevated.

Majestic say:
A vibrant Pinot Grigio that offers much more character and class than some. Shows delicious floral, honeysuckle aromas and crisp lemongrass and citrus fruit flavours.
