My blog-entry-before-last (way back in August) was about the new band I'd joined - the Rice Hooligan Orchestra. That band is still going strong and we've now had a grand total of 2 gigs. In the meantime I've also had a couple of gigs with Jez, the fiddle player from the Orchestra, and a singer named Jane. We played under the name of The Unclear Family and, by way of change, Jez played bass while I played fiddle.
Tonight I'll be playing with yet another band, although I'm not sure whether this will be just a one-off or the start of a longer musical partnership. I'm playing bass for my friend Adrian, who is a singer-songwriter (and rather a good one at that, IMHO). The bass I'll be playing for this gig is Adrian's acoustic bass guitar, as it's lighter to carry to the gig (which is within walking distance) than the double bass and fits the style of music better than my fretless electric 5-string bass.
My main band is still the twmpath band Defaid Du, with whom I've now been playing for over 7 years. We recently got back from a gig all the way down in Devon. The gig itself was the wedding of our guitarist's sister (I'm not sure how much choice she had in the matter of the evening's entertainments!) but the night before we had a most excellent impromptu session at a pub called the Anchor in the village of Chudleigh Knighton. If you happen to be passing through that way, I recommend it as an excellent place to stop for a drop of refreshment (and you can tell the landlord and his charming daughter that Magnus (the fiddler from that Welsh folk band) says "hi"!).
