I'm quite a fan of the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so perhaps it's not surprising to find my recent trilogy of blog entries about knitting running to a fourth part! I had intended to blog about something else before launching into another knitting-related post but having finished both of my current projects I'm too excited to keep quiet about them.
The first project to finish was the hat, which is fair enough as
I'd started it a few days before the slipper socks too. I finished
knitting it and sewing in the loose ends on Tuesday evening, blocked
it on Wednesday and wore it for the first time this evening (which
will probably be last night by the time this gets published - I wrote
it on Thursday night). Here's what it looks like on me:

I finished my second slipper sock earlier this evening and am now enjoying nice warm feet as I type this. I haven't yet got any pictures of the finished pair so you'll have to wait a while to see them. The most exciting feature about the second sock is that the central braid is twisted in the opposite direction to that on the first sock (shown in close up last time).
I'm not entirely project-less at the moment, as I've also started knitting a Fair Isle test piece, which will probably end up as a small bag. I'm just about to start casting on for another, somewhat larger, bag that will be in basketweave stitch using the same yarn as I used for my mittens and top-down hat. Also, I've decided on the necessary amendments to my previous attempt at a striped sock pattern (which will mostly consist of adding in a few extra stitches, since I've decided I like the feel of the fabric gauge obtained by using the needles I previously used, although the sock itself was a bit tight), so I'm hoping to make a start on actually knitting those in the next few days.
PS if you're wondering about the title of this post, oddi ar y gweill is Welsh for "off the needles", although it isn't an idiom in the same way as ar y gweill.
