Ar y Gweill #1

The Welsh language has a nice idiom for things that you're doing at the moment. You can describe something as being ar y gweill, which literally means "on the knitting needles".

Taking that expression literally, I've not had a great deal on the needles lately as I've had too many other things on my figurative needles. However, I've recently started knitting again (largely due to the enthusiasm of a friend who's just taken up the craft) and have now started two new projects.

First, though, I should mention what became of the projects I'd previously been working on...

My teacosy was finally finished this March, although I didn't get round to blogging about it. Here's what it looks like on the teapot:

As for the stripy socks, once I got the first one past the heel I tried it on and decided that it was a little on the tight side. Rather than finishing both socks and hoping they'd stretch sufficiently, I decided to take a short break from the project and then restart on slightly larger needles or using a few more stitches per round. I still haven't got round to restarting, but am planning to do so sometime in the next few weeks. I'll probably stick with essentially the same design, but I'll take the opportunity to adjust the stripes slightly.

My third ongoing project the last time I blogged about knitting was a pair of mittens. After the photo in the previous post was taken I didn't do very much more work on them until a couple of weeks ago, and then I got them finished pretty quickly. They are now ready to wear and have in fact had their first public outing in the very cold weather we've had the past few days (although I gather my area was one of the few parts of the UK not to receive any snow).

Tune in next time to find out about the new projects...
